Our love story
How Jonathan Healy & Benjamin Hansen met
The first message
July 2019
Ben and Jonathan had mutual friends and one day, Ben messaged Jonathan and invited him to coffee. But, since Jonathan is bad at reading messages from people he doesn't know, he didn't respond until a month later, and by that time Ben was dating someone else.
The second attempt
February 2020
As Jonathan was traveling back to Minneapolis from visiting his parents in Florida, Ben messaged that he was single again and interested. Jonathan replied back from the airport that he was interested too, but somehow that message never made it to Ben.
Conversation
September 1, 2020
Over six excruciating months into the pandemic, Ben decided to message Jonathan one last time. This led to great conversations and discovering they had a lot in common. They continued learning more about each other, and after 10 days, Ben suggested they meet in Hinckley – halfway between Duluth and Minneapolis.
They finally meet
September 12, 2020
They met in Hinckley at the Caribou Coffee and then went to Westside Pavilion park. They had a great time talking and lost track of time until the sun started setting almost six hours later.
Long distance then short
September - February
The next five months were a flurry of texts, phone calls, video chat dates, and weekend trips to see each other. Ben went to see Jonathan for Valentine's Day 2021 weekend and... stayed.
The proposal
March 12, 2022
On a trip up to Duluth, Jonathan took a detour to the park where they met in Hinkley, got down on one knee, and proposed to Ben. Ben said yes.
